Beachvolleyball Grand Slam Klagenfurt - 2008
3.8.2008 23:57 Perma-LinkCongratulations to the winning female team from Brazil and the winning male team from Russia !!!
Congratulations also to the seconds and thirds.
Hiking
17.7.2007 12:39 Perma-LinkIf you ever plan to visit Austria for hiking in the Alps, do not forget to visit the western part of Styria around Murau and the mountains called "Niedere Tauern". Although I am from Austria, I have been there for my first time last weekend. The landscape is fantastic. (I have forgotten my camera at home, so there are no photos)
And also be sure not to miss the very cool parties of the voluntary fire brigades there.
Airtravel in GB sucks badly
8.7.2007 14:18 Perma-LinkI guess the title says everything. Guess what, yeah, they lost my baggage on my travel home again. I guess it is somewhere in Heathrow again. This airport should be shut down or get more money for more employees. They are incapable of doing their work.
We departed one hour late in Heathrow because management had sent the pilots to the wrong terminal, so why should they be able to deliver baggage from one terminal 1 to terminal 4, even with 4 (with the delay 5) hours time
At VIE (Vienna International Airport) they told me that in Heathrow there are a few thousand pieces of "lost" baggage currently waiting for distribution. So let\'s see if and when they get to mine.
The positive thing is: I\'m home again !! I really think aKademy was great, but the travel toward and from there sucked.
aKademy, coming to an end
6.7.2007 19:27 Perma-LinkThis is my last real day in Glasgow, tomorrow I\'m just going to the airport heading home.
Random thoughts:
- It was a really nice event again, although I hope that next aKademy will still be bigger and greater.
- Thanks to the organizing team for all their work
- I don\'t get it, why is everybody nagging about the rain. It\'s a great invention of mother nature
- I have updated my photos page, to contain all images I\'m going to publish publically. There are also images from the Loch Lomond daytrip (no I did not upload the swimming pictures) and some city sightseeing images.
The URL is: http://photos.jowenn.at/main.php?g2_itemId=14491& - I should have coded more for Kate
aKademy photos
3.7.2007 13:26 Perma-LinkMy photos of aKademy, the social events and Glasgow can now be found here: http://photos.jowenn.at/main.php?g2_itemId=14491&
Contributer\\\'s conference is over, e.V meeting is over ==> time for development for everybody :-)
Never forget your towel ...
1.7.2007 16:11 Perma-Linkbut no, we are no hitchhikers to the galaxy, we are KDE people. So: Never forget your cup. At least if you would like to drink tea or coffee ;-)
Eventually everything worked out okay, for me, but not for every body, yet.
After circling for about an hour above Heathrow on Friday, than waiting twenty minutes for a parking stand to get free for the plane, almost missing my connection flight, waiting for an hour in a very hot plane because the air condition didn\\\'t work, than it was turned on full power. I arrived about one and a half hour late in Glasgow. So far so good, just to realize that they lost my baggage in Heathrow. (Thanks BA). At least the important things (camera and notebook are here. I got my baggage on Saturday afternoon. Dominik Hauman had less luck, they still don\\\'t know where they lost it.
The youth hostel is really great. It can not be compared to the dublin one.
At the conference there are a lot of interesting talks, and eventually there is wireless networking available too :-) Yesterday, Saturday evening, we had a really nice social event, which got a littlebit disturbed by pre-marriage festivities of a girl, which crashed into our pub, but it was great fun. Photos will follow later on.
Now that I have a compiling kdelibs check out, it\\\'s time to start some KATE coding.
Travel D-1
28.6.2007 17:30 Perma-LinkAlmost everything packed and still a few hours till departure from home, but aKademy, I am coming
I am still there
26.2.2007 23:2 Perma-LinkI have noticed, that I am not able anymore to sit day and night in front of a computer display. That is why I have almost abandoned KDE development for now. Instead I currently attend dancing classes for standard dances, Boogie and Salsa.
BUT: I have said almost ;-) , currently I am trying to get a KDE 4 development system running, since I am in need of a few KATE features for my day work and I think implementing them for a dead end branch is sensless.
I hope kde/kate 4 stabilises fast enough for my daily work. I can live with it not being production quality, but most basic things should work.
Salsa in Vienna
25.11.2006 18:58 Perma-LinkFor those who are going to visit Vienna (Austrian capital) or found a secondary home there, like me, and who like dancing salsa or bars with latin music, I can only recommend the El Dorado Latin Club www.club-eldorado.at. They play really cool music there and there are peoples from different nationalities in the age rang of about 18 to about 50.
Now that my Salsa lessons are almost over (see my older blogs) I will be there quite often I guess
There are no news about progress of my KATE todo list though, but that is life.
computer == TV ?
1.11.2006 17:45 Perma-LinkAustria is going to switch terrestrial TV to DVB-T. Since I have to switch my TV setup anyway, why not give watching TV via computer a try.
I bought a Hauppage WinTV HVR-900 USB stick, which has a hybrid tuner (DVB-T/analog).
- Windows: analog works, no dvb-t, although I am living in an area, where it should work.
The bundled software works, but crashes often, especially in my setup with the desktop distributed across two screen.
MediaPortal (http://mediaportal.sf.net) still is not able to use the analog part of the tuner - Linux: Analog TV almost works, the v4l driver does not support the DVB-T part of the tuner yet. (I knew that, and that is not a problem right now)
if the usb device is connected during booting of the notebook the nvidia driver blanks the screen and there is no way of doing something usefull except rebooting by typing in the commands blind
xawtv does not start on my debian sid installation with the commercial nvidia driver
KDETV works :-) !!! Ok, now comes the almost. I can watch TV, but I do not have sound :-( Not sure if it is a v4l problem or an alsa problem. Alsa always had problems on this VAIO notebook (microphone not working eg in skype (phone conferences == rebooting to windows), wrong master control (master should be front, instead of headphone, since front==headphone on this device))
